RULES & CONSTITUTION

1.   The name of the society shall be The Lovebird (1990) Society

2.   The object of the society shall be to promote the keeping, breeding and exhibition of all species of lovebird (the genus Agapornis) in particular but not exclusively:-

(a) To represent the interests of the members to government and other avicultural bodies

(b) To prepare publicise and support:-

(i)           A breed standard for each species

(ii)         A show classification for each species

(iii)       A standard show cage for the species

3.   Membership of the society shall be open to all persons who support its objectives.

4.   The annual general meeting shall be the over riding decision making body of the society, to which meeting the officers shall be responsible and report annually

5.    

a)   The society may (with the con sent of the nominee) appoint to the position of Honorary President any person deemed by the general meeting to have given noteworthy service to the society, or to the interests of the society. Such appointment to be held for the life of the person appointed, unless they shall previously resign the position

b)   Should the position of Honorary President currently be held by another person, the society may (with the consent of the nominee(s)) appoint to the position (or positions) of Honorary Vice-President any other person or persons deemed by the general meeting to have given noteworthy service to the society, or to the interests of the society. Such appointment to be held for the life of the person appointed, unless they shall previously resign the position

c)   In the event of the death or resignation of the Honorary President the person first appointed Honorary Vice-President shall become president. Where more than one Honorary Vice-President holds equal seniority the elder shall be appointed Honorary President

d)   In the event that there are no nominees willing to be appointed, or there are no candidates meeting the approval of the general meeting, the positions of Honorary President and Honorary Vice-President may be left vacant. An appointment may be made direct to the position of Honorary President where there are no Honorary Vice-Presidents already appointed. No appointment shall me made as Honorary Vice-President if the position of Honorary President is vacant

e)   No formal duties shall be placed on the Honorary President or Honorary Vice-Presidents by virtue of them holding that office. They shall automatically become members of the society for life, with all rights associated therewith. Their sole responsibility shall be to continue to further the interests of the society by such means as are within their power

f)    The executive officers of the society shall be:- Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer & Patronage Secretary. The executive committee shall consist of all the officers with seven other members. Four committee members, one of them being an officer shall form a quorum. The committee may co-opt additional members at its discretion, who shall have full voting rights

g)   All officers and committee members shall be elected at an Annual General Meeting and take office for three years from the end of the meeting at which they are elected, leaving office at the end of the Annual General meeting three years later. On the expiry of their term, officers and committee members shall be eligible for re-election.

6.   The treasurer shall take charge of all income of the society, and be responsible for all payments made on its account. The treasurer shall keep a full written and up to date account of the society’s financial affairs which shall be made available to the chairman on request. The financial year for the society’s annual accounts shall be from 1st October to the following 30th September

7.   The committee is empowered to set up sub committees for specific purposes. The chairman and secretary of the society shall be ex-officio members of any sub committee

8.   The Annual General Meeting shall normally be held in the month of September, Whenever possible on the same day and at the same venue of the society’s Members Annual Lovebird Show

9.   A minimum of fourteen clear days notice of special meetings and of annual general meetings shall be given in writing to every member. An advertisement in “Cage & Aviary Birds” giving date, time and venue, and published at least two full weeks before the meeting shall be deemed to comply with this requirement

10.        A special general meeting shall be called by the secretary on receipt of a written request by any forty members of the society. A special general may be called by the executive committee. Any such meeting will be notified to members within twenty eight days of receipt of the request and the meeting shall take place within six weeks of the request. In any request for a special meeting the nature of the business to be discussed must be specified and only that business may be discussed

11.        The annual subscription will be decided at each AGM by the members present. The subscription for the following year is due after the AGM. Members not paying by 1st April following shall be deemed to have allowed their membership to lapse. If a lapsed member seeks re-election during the current year the subscription for that year shall be paid in full, plus a re-election fee of 50% of the yearly subscription. The committee may in its absolute discretion grant reduction of subscription to OAP’s, Juniors or other members not in full time work

12.        These rules may only be altered at an AGM or a SGM called for the purpose. Twenty eight days notice shall be given to the secretary of a motion to amend the rules at the AGM, and shall be advised to the members with the notice of the meeting. A motion to amend the rules shall require a two-thirds majority of those present and voting to be carried. Rule changes shall take effect from the end of the meeting at which they are passed

13.        The committee shall have power to expel any member acting contrary to the interests of the society, such person shall have the right to appeal to the next AGM

14.        The society shall only be dissolved at a general meeting of members called in accordance with rules 8, 9 &10. In the event of the society being dissolved the assets if any shall be donated to such avicultural organisations as deemed by the members at the final general meeting

15.        The Executive Committee shall have the power to deal with all matters not provided for in these rules
